If you could take a three wheeled motorcycle and put snow skis under each wheel, then climb aboard and speed off into the winter wonderland, you have an idea of what snowmobile racing is like. Now, you can imagine what the adrenaline rush is like, while speeding off through a challenging course that is designed to make you have a wreck.

A challenging course would be one that is short and demanding, and could be laid out along frozen river banks, and through snow that is so deep a person can get lost in it. It would be very difficult to maneuver through soft shoulders and drift banks.

You can expect to have plenty of sharp turns, even right angles or complete double-backs in the trail. Anything they can create as an obstacle to increase difficulty of the course if fair game. Your skin is stinging from the cold wind pelting you with what feels like shards of ice.

After all of those thrills and spills involved in a race, you understand how this activity became a sport when the snow mobile was invented. Even though they were intended for winter transportation, they just offered too much opportunity to match wits against the elements. Local races began to form where people could prepare themselves for world class events.

Some people are surprised to find out that this is considered a family activity with everyone, including mom, getting involved in the fun. It doesn't matter what age you are, you can find a local club that can provide you with all the details you need to get started with the sport.

If you are interested in a more competitive groups, you can find out information about National and Regional associations. These two sections have different requirements and if you are a member you can enter the races. There are different levels of expertise, ranging from beginner to expert, and provide you with plenty of opportunities to sharpen your skills.
