The ingredients of Morning After Pills and OCP i.e. Oral Contraceptive Pills are the same. The main composition of these is hormones like levonorgestrel or Progesterone or Estrogen. So, both of these functions, prevents the occurrence of pregnancy.
The method of action of morning after pills is divided into three steps. All this steps forms an important part of its action. To begin with, the morning after pill thwarts the ovulation i.e. averts the production of eggs from ovaries which consecutively prevents the fertilization process. Secondly, it also adjusts the regular menstrual cycle i.e. it interrupts ovulation and thus, pregnancy is not possible. Thirdly, it aggravates the lining of the endometrium of uterus and makes it unfit for implantation of fertilized egg there. This also further averts pregnancy.
