When you need to stay healthy, everyone understands how important it is to get enough Vitamin C. People are told again and again how beneficial Vitamin C is to staying healthy. When you have the flu, what's the first thing folks say to you? "Take a tablet of Vitamin C!" Now, however, there is some speculation regarding whether Vitamin C can actually help prevent the common cold.
By now you have no doubt already been advised about Echinacea. The thought is that, if you take an Echinacea product if you feel a cold setting in, you can keep it from really grabbing hold of you. Recently, however, studies have verified that Echinacea provides little more than a placebo effect for the people suffering from cold and flu symtoms. At most the health supplement cuts the cold's length by 20 hours. That's barely a cure.
How does one keep the colds from getting the better of a person? Keep reading to educate yourself how to help yourself.
1. Keep the hands clean. Clean both hands a lot. This is probably about the fastest way that you may keep a cold from setting in. Why should this do the job so properly? Think over it for just a minute. Our hands come into contact with a lot more cold and flu germs than any other part of our body. Have you ever seriously considered everything you touch every day? Every time you touch one thing that has already been touched by someone with the flu, you raise your chances of getting sick. The more regularly you wash your hands, the less likely it is that one of the microbes you have contact with will get the chance to work its way into your system.
2. Get lots and lots of sleep. It's tempting, particularly when times are anxious, to stay up late. Perhaps you have more work to get done. You want to take more time with buddies. There's a show you really want to watch. All these things decrease the amount of rest that you are able to get. You need to give the body enough rest so that it will have the vitality to fight off any infections that want to set in. When you are resting and asleep the body has a chance to do maintenance and make repairs. The more rest you get, the easier it's going to be for the body to defend against infection and get rid of it before it really has a chance to latch on.
3. Remain hydrated. In order to stay alive, you should take in a minimum of sixty four ounces of water every day. Staying correctly hydrated is definitely how your system is able to flush the toxins out of your system. If you aren't correctly hydrated, germs just stick around instead of getting flushed out. Remember: your system can last about 1 week without eating solid food. Your entire body can only last a day or two if you don't stay hydrated. Doesn't this make the importance of suitable hydration hit home?
The thing is: there isn't any mysterious cure for the common cold. What can be done, however, is practice common sense, scrub your hands a lot, get plenty of rest each night and stay properly hydrated.
