Carpet

• The Very Basics
o Carpet-fibrous floor covering available in a full spectrum of colors & textures.
o Solid Wood-natural floor covering that comes from 1 of many different species of wood and is stained or clear coated
o Engineered Wood- layered product in which each layer is a solid piece of wood that is glued to the next layer. Only the top layer holds color.
o Ceramic Tile- clay or a mixture of organic materials, ceramic tile is finished by kiln firing. The common types are mosaic and quarry. Made in many shapes and sizes, it is glazed or unglazed.
o Natural Stone-stone tiles available in slate, marble, granite, travertine and many other styles.
o Vinyl Flooring-available in sheets, tiles, strips and other configurations, vinyl flooring comes in numerous styles and colors
o Laminates-has the appearance of any floor that can be photographed. A layer of laminate, a high resolution picture and a backing are affixed to an engineered wood core.

Carpet
• Lifestyle Choice:
o Soft and comfortable and warm to the touch
o Absorbs sounds
o Safe non-slip surface
o Long life for you to enjoy
o Acts as an insulator and can improve the R-factor and energy efficiency of your home
o May be a challenge to clean if you are laying it in areas at a great risk of stains and moisture such as in a laundry room
o At lower quality levels, may fray or wear

• Style Choice:
o Countless colors and textures to fit in to almost any décor
o A dark color can draw the room in and create a cozy feel while a light color opens the room up
o A bold carpet color choice may limit future options when re-painting the walls or purchasing new furniture
o Because carpet absorbs light rather than reflects it, smaller room may appear more confined with a carpeted floor than with a bright and shiny floor covering

• Investment Decision:
o Although a wide variety of price points exist in carpet , generally carpet is a very cost effective product choice
o Carpet is truly an investment that you can protect…regular vacuuming, and periodic carpet cleaning greatly increases the life and resale value of your investment
o Bold carpet colors can be a very personalized taste and when reselling your home, if your tastes do not line up with those of a potential buyer, that buyer may consider the expense to replace the carpet in evaluating the worth of your home
