Deciding on a wedding venue is arguably harder than deciding on the dress or the rings. You want to pick somewhere which holds some meaning for you but you also have to bear in mind the location in relation to where your guests will be coming from. You also have to consider whether you'll be having the service at the venue or having a church service. Whichever service you decide on, the wedding venue remains a huge part of your wedding planning. Imagine how much time you spend trying to decide on birthday gifts for friends and then multiply that tenfold. That's how difficult it can be to choose a wedding venue.
Once you've decided on how many guests you'd like to invite, or rather how many guests you can afford to invite, you can start thinking about the reception. Typically, couples choose a venue with a walk way into the reception room. This is to aid the smooth running of the receiving line. As the guests start to arrive at the venue for the wedding breakfast, it is traditional for the bride's mother and father, then the bride and groom followed by the groom's parents, the bridesmaids and the groomsmen. A walkway into the reception room makes this whole process so much easier.
Other factors to consider when choosing a venue include the variety of food available, the price of the drinks and the rates of the rooms in case some relatives are staying over. Also make sure there is an area for your guests to wait whilst the reception room is being re-laid after the wedding breakfast and before the evening reception. A waiting area near the hotel bar is always a good idea!
