The Canon EOS 5D is the first consumer priced full-frame sensor body camera. The EOS 5D weighs in at just a little over 2lbs and takes outstanding 13 Megapixel photos. This camera is without question the best consumer digital camera on the market for anybody who is serious about photography.
The Canon 5D has a digital sensor which is the same size as a frame of 35mm film. This equals much higher quality pictures including in low light situations. In addition it means the ability to utilize wide angle lenses. The Canon EOS 5D is made of a solid plastic yet very sturdy and well built. The EOS 5D is very quick to startup and turns on almost instantly. The delay in between pictures is almost non-existent and so short that it would be hard to actual measure. While the camera is incredibly fast and responsive it would not be ideal for situations that require more than 3 photos per second such as sports photography.
The Canon EOS 5D has the standard set of exposure modes which are Metered Manual, Shutter-priority, Aperture-priority and Program auto-exposure. The focus modes are also standard: Manual, Single-shot auto, Continuous auto, and AI focus. The AI focus mode is where the camera will attempt to figure out if your subject is moving or not and adjust accordingly. It works quite well and is far superior to AI focus on some of the more basic cameras.
The viewfinder on the Canon EOS 5D is standard and displays about 96 percent of what is actually captured. This can be a little bit tedious since the only way to actually determine what will be captured is to take a test shot and then view it on the rear LCD screen. The Canon EOS 5D does not offer a live preview on the rear screen. This particular camera utilizes a Compact Flash Card (Type I or II) for storage.
The Canon EOS 5D is an excellent camera for serious amateur photographers! This camera offers a great feature set, a consumer level price and the shots capture with the Canon EOS 5D look absolutely beautiful!
