Using a scanner for the purpose of creating art - scanner art - is not necessarily the reason that scanners were introduced in the first place, so it might come as something of an original scheme. The scanner was made for similar functions as a photocopier - basically copying of text and images for sharing. However the scanner is also practical for scanning 3-D items to render what is known as a hyper-real picture. This process is referred to as scanography or simply scanner photography.
If you would like to find out further about scanography and perhaps buying a scanner for creating art, you should be happy to know that many hobbyists are happy using scanners on the low end of the price scale, such as the Epson Perfection range, which can be bought for one hundred dollars or less. Scanning objects is similar in ways to the old office party trick of making copies of your behind using the Xerox machine. In this case though, we are not taking photos of the rear end, and anyway, the outcome will be better and hopefully more attractive!
Popular subject matter includes fruit, leaves, flowers, vegetables, several other things besides. These items can be utilized as art work for the office, for home or for kid's school projects. You name it! Any place photography is required it can be replaced by some type of scanner art.
So how do you make scanner art? Simple! Place the thing you would like to scan on the scanner glass without closing the lid of the scanner. Turn off the lights and subsequently attempt to locate the scanner's Start button. If you can't find the Start button on the scanner, turn the lights back on briefly and now hit the Start button after turning the lights off again! You now have yourself some genuine scanner art.
When viewing your scanned image, you will witness how clear the results really are. Even bits of dust will show up, which is not exactly what you were shooting for, unless scanning dust was your goal. If this is the case for you and you actually want to attempt selling your scanner art (yes, selling is in style these days) or you simply desire a flawless image for yourself, then you could touch up the image via software like Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, or Gimp which is free of charge.
If you have a scanner and are very creative, why not try scanner art. Who knows where this pastime could lead you. And if you do not have a scanner but are an artist or an imaginative hobbyist (like a scrapbooker), think about purchasing a scanner to expand your hobby.
