Cartagena de Indias is regarded as the most significant tourist destination of Colombia. There are located the most charming hotels in Colombia, along with wonderful tourist attractions and beaches.

Essentially the most visited places there are:

El Corralito de Piedra

This is an historical zone, a colonial village enclosed by walls that were made as a way to protect the city from permanent attacks. The building was established by periods; in 1556 and in1608.

Inside the city, there are several ancient buildings and streets.  The square is surrounded by ancient residences and wood balconies. Outside the walls, there are romantic bars, restaurants and Colombia hotels.

El Laguito

Bocagrande

This is an extremely well-known place, a consolidated tourist center because it presents the best tourist infrastructure of the area. Most of the tourists value its tranquil zones.

Pie de la Popa

It is one of the first neighborhoods of Cartagena. This area has considerable colonial houses, and is rich in history. Nowadays, it has one of the largest shopping centers of Colombia; it’s named Caribe Plaza and covers an area of eight hectares, so don’t miss it during your vacation.

Getsemaní

This is probably the most representative neighborhoods of the city. This was the place where the slaves inhabited. There's a modern Convention Center Julio Cesar Turbay Ayala, the Tercera Orden church, the Centenario Park, the Camellón de los Máritres along with the Cloister of San Francisco.

La Matuna

It is the financial area of the city that involves industries as international trade, the tourism plus the transportation. La Matuna developed into one of the places where part of the wall was cut after which redesigned and appropriated as business center. There are located some of the business Cartagena hotels.

Islands

There are several beautiful beaches, surrounded by white sand like Barú Island, Rosario Islands, where it is possible to practice diving among the reefs and ecologic walks in a natural and pleasant environment.

The beaches would be the most significant attractions for visitors in Cartagena de Indias. Within the urban area Cartagena has 19Km of beaches, in which people can practice a variety of aquatic sports activities.

Among the most important beaches are: Bocagrande, Marbella, Bocachica and Bahia del Castillo Grande beach that is covered by tropical savannah, fish, urban sea landscapes, green waters with few swells.
