Honolulu is the capital city of the state of Hawaii. It is the most populous city in the entire state of Hawaii. Although it is the only incorporated city in the entire state, it is usually known as the island of Oahu. The survey of the year 2000 revealed that, the city has a population of around 371,325 people. Some of the attraction in the city of Honolulu is discussed below.
Pearl Harbor
On December the 7, 1941, on this site, 1,500 soldiers lost their lives tragically as a result of an unexpected casualty. At present this site houses a memorial of that day. That day is widely acknowledged as the Day of Infamy by the Americans. The visit to this place usually kicks off with a video presentation, which is usually followed by a guided tour of the battlefield.
Queen Emma Summer Palace
The Queen Palace was built in the year 1848 as the summer resting place for the Queen Emma, who was the wife of King Kamehameha. This palace incorporates the Greek architecture which was designed by John Lewis and it now stands as one of the finest examples of the ancient Greek architecture.
At present this palace serves as a wedding hall and a tourist attraction. The palace can be hired for a wedding or a function on rental basis. Concerts and fests also take place in this palace in a periodic basis.
U.S. Army Museum of Hawaii
The US Army Museum exhibits the army history of the state of Hawaii from the very early days. The museum features much new exciting stuff like the original photographs taken during the battle time and real video effects that would make you to feel like you were actually there.
The US Army Museum welcomes you with guns and tanks that were originally used at the war times which once served as the fortress for the invading troops.
Iolani Palace
Iolani Palace was by built by the King Kealakekua. This palace shows as an insight of the residence of the last two Monarchs of the Hawaii's history. At present, the palace serves as tourist destinations. You can tour the entire palace with the help of a guide. You will be provided with boots to wear before entering the palace to ensure safety to your legs from the fully finished wood floors.
Halona Blowhole
The molten lava once spilled, carved and shaped in to a structure which is now known as the Halona Blowhole. This is a naturally occurred area. These eruptions are assumed to have occurred over 200,000 years ago. This spot is a worthy spot to spend and relax some time with. Surfers are found all over the place.
